Still around and complaining
Hey all, needless to say i am still around and i have pretty much given up on selling my B6! I think as it has been through the mill and looks like it has been through the mill no one wants to buy it
so my dreams of owning a SV1000 have gone to pot and i am looking at doing up my B6 until she shines and there are no more rust points lol
Anyway i will be more active on here so can provide useless advice and sarcarstic comments again - also i will be trying to make events now as the bike is paid off this month so i will have an extra £350 a month to play with hehe
Speaking of playing with stuff for the bike where would people recommend buying a new battery from? Mine is buggered as it is being drained by a Datatool Sys 3
Things are looking good where i am so i am going to spend time riding my bike for the fun of it again
Hope you are all well
Ian

Re: Still around and complaining
Varta battery and at the end of every month put the alarm in service mode, remove battery and put the battery on an optimate over the weekend.
Strip bike down give it a thorough clean with autoglym bike kit (£45) and autosol products.
Examine coroded parts and replace. If required get swing arm, and stands powder coated or repainted along with front forks.
Replace bolts with Banditmania stainless bolt kits.
Source from Banditmania - Colour coded rear hugger, colour coded fenda extenda and Hel brake lines including a stainless steel rad cover (if you haven't already got these)
Clean and lube chain with PJ1 chain lube
Strip down brake calipers and use Back to Black on the cases.
Purchase ACF 50 or FS365 and spray on bike when you get home everynight.
You need a trade in value of £980 - £1200 for your bandit for a used SV1000.
I'd advise in looking for a K5 model as they are 10HP more and would advise in getting one from a Solus Suzuki dealer.
Can get them for £3500 - £4000

Re: Still around and complaining
Ok...
I think you are totally over estimating my capabilities here, i enjoy a tinkle as much as the next person but i am pretty rubbish at it. i guess now is a great time to learn lol. Defintely need to get a bike shed or something - better yet get a house with a garage.
Anyway, i will look at the battery thing but i have another question - always questions
- i have a scott oiler but the plastic tube right at the end that drips it down on to the chain is missing, it has never been there and the mechanic i use has no idea where to get one. I tried to get in touch with the company but i have never had a response. Any thoughts people??
Guess i am now going to do up my bandit until i can get a trade value of £1200 as that is what i will need to get an SV1000, i love the look of those bikes with fairing lowers
Anyway, thanks for the advice Lee, i will make a start and see what i can come up with in terms of stripping and cleaning the bike as best i can god help me l

Re: Still around and complaining
As Paul said I'd agree with him and stick with the six they are a crackin bike, loads of parts a tough oil cooled engine If you want fairing lowers you can get them for your six as well all she needs is some TLC.

Re: Still around and complaining
In terms of a bike shed.
I have the Mk1 version of this www.secure-a-bike.com
I've had mine since 2001 and it is moved houses twice. It was on a temporary base for 7 years before moving to my 2nd house.
I had to have Tim do a repair on it.
It takes 2 people to put together in 30 mins. And you get an insurance discount with it + certificate stating it is Thatcham approved.
Comes with a pair of laser cut keys (Don't loose them !!!!).
Mine cost me £900, they are bit more expensive now, as there is a few extras that come with it now.

+1 with the dogs.
We have a Staffie Bitch and a Cobrador Male (Collie Cross Lab), considering the area I live in and it's reputation we've never had any attempts on our house...

I think of it like this as well You have just finished paying for it so you might as well get some miles out of her and slowly go through the bike changing bits at a time so the cost doesn't hit you in one go

Re: Still around and complaining
Hey all,
Thanks for the advice from everyone
The website seems to have most of it that i can think of needing for the scottoiler, i must have been looking at the wrong website or something - very stupid.
The idea of using the WD40 plastic spray end is great and i will be trying that before i buy anything - Chucky i love that idea
I do love my bandit dont get me wrong, but it has done 32500 very hard miles without the TLC that it should have had, it will take a long time to build it back up to a good level - also a lot of money i think
guess i dont have an excuse now that i have paid it off.
I would love to get a dog - a German Sheppherd would be perfect but it costs too much money to keep. Maybe in a couple of years
Thanks again all, and now that i have some money (when i get paid) i will join up properly so i can buy all the bits cheaply
from Bandit Mania

32,500 ??????????????????
ian mine has 38,000 n it gets the berries everytime out n it still pulls like a train ( i do look after it tho) i like good wine, she likes good oil
when i got my first b6 back in 98 i got told they dont lift in 2nd
i would call mr.suu zuu kii and tell him different but no one has his number
they dont come alive till 8000rpm+
n the real fun starts at 10,000
go for a ride and use a gear down to what you normally use and rev her to 10,000 ++ and see feel the difference
you`ll soon be passing the POWER RANGERS

Re: Still around and complaining
Right, good news on the bike front, replaced the battery with a Varta - thanks for the recommendation - and yes i managed it myself lol although the alarm caused me no end of trouble - i had to reconnect the battery to put it in service mode, it still beeped every 30 seconds quietly.
When i put the new batt in fully charged, the bike started straight away with the choke fully on, i kept the revs at c4000 rpm and then shut off the throttle, the bike died, there was a load of rubbish that came out of the exhaust just before it died.
Now it wont start, it tries to but there is no spark, my mechanic thinks that i have buggered the spark plugs trying to start it on a dead battery. He has recommended that i bring it in to get them replaced. What do you guys think?
Nearly there on the money front - just got a 2nd job that is paying £70 per week, all going on the bike lol

Re: Still around and complaining
I can't really see the sparks dying on a dead battery.
Afterall a dead battery will make the ignition go in to clicking mode.
Possible reasons for it not starting:
Starting the bike with the side gear down whilst still in gear
You have Flooded the bike
The alarm is active. When you put it in service mode it beeps every now and then. When you take the battery out in service mode it beeps every now and then.
What has probably happened is that the alarm trigger under the seat has been knocked.
With the Datafool... They have this seat trigger that is a bit of flat steel that gets bent out of shape and is connected on the frame under the seat.
Do the electrics work ? Lights, indicators, clocks.
Have you checked the fuses of the bike and the alarm.
Have you resynced the alarm fobs of the alarm.

Re: Still around and complaining
No turning a bike over with a under powered battery will make the engine turn over slowly fouling the plugs with unburnt fuel. Might be easier bunging a new set of plugs (but the down side they are expensive) It's a shame you dont live any closer to me we could sort it in no time at all. Are you 100% sure that the alarm has been set off imobilising the bike.

Re: Still around and complaining
you are going to love this... this shows how much luck i have with my bike
the spark plugs were black, we cleaned 1 and 4 and got the bike started but it kept dying on us so had another look at some other stuff, moved it to the front of the house to use a jump from the breakdown van, found it was leaking fuel???
Found that the oil container was filled with petrol and could not figure out why, the reserve tank switch was on, as i always use the reserve, this apparently can leak like mine did into the engine, so i am draining the oil and changing the filter and replacing the spark plugs.
I am hoping that this is enough to sort it but hey ho here we go - i dont think the bike is sellable at the mo so i am keeping it for now. Really annoyed with the whole thing as this is going to cost me a fair bit to sort i think. £28+VAT for the spark plugs, no idea for the oil and loads of money for the labour - dreading the bill
