Tyres - which ones get the thumbs up
Hi Folks
need new ones for the 600, which ones get the thumbs up - don't want to pay masses but do want a reasonable set, i'm doing about 6000 miles/year
also any advice on where to get them - especially if there are some bargains out there!
Cheers

Re: Tyres - which ones get the thumbs up
There is a tyre fitter in Swindon in the Kembrey Park business estate on the same road as Thames Water, it is on Ash road across the road from the old H***a offices and car park which have been demolished.

You'll get different answers from everyone. I swear by Dunlop 208's i use them on my 1200 and GSXR and have never felt like they were going to give up. which is good..LOL

Re: Tyres - which ones get the thumbs up
Cheers fellas
i use mine for back lanes, a roads and some motorway work.
The last rear Bridgestone 020 did approx 5000 before hitting wear bars, which i suppose isn't too bad...
Like the sound of the Avons and they seem pretty reasonably priced too.

Re: Tyres - which ones get the thumbs up
iv just switched form bt020's to conti road attacks on my 750 and they are just as good, but are cheaper. dads got avon storm st's on his 12 and they are lasting well and lean to the edge of the tyres with no problems.
Re: Tyres - which ones get the thumbs up
Hi mate,
Just to confuse matters more still here's my opinion on the Bridgestones BT021's I have on my bike just now. Had them on bike since last June and they have done 5500 miles now and still seem to be holding up well. I normally ride mostly backroads with some motorway miles, although have been to Barcelona and back on this set and they coped admirably.
Was on first trackday yesterday and had them lent right over and hard acceleration and braking and no grip issues whatsoever. Wet grip is very good as trip to Barca was basically a washout all the way there and didn't even think about what tyres were doing at the time.

Re: Tyres - which ones get the thumbs up
I'm looking at the new Maxxis Boring tires at the moment. As I have the Maxxis Supermaxx which have done over 6000 miles so far and the rear has 3mm of tread left over 3/4 of the tyre. Ok there is a nail in the rear tyre which has now been totally recovered by the rubber. I am still checking the PSI on the rear tyre every couple of days and there is still 36PSI.
So far those in the USA are claiming over 8000 miles on the Supermaxx's and many are saying that they have 3-4mm of tread left on them.
DK motorcycles in near Stoke are selling them from £109.99 a pair.

Re: Tyres - which ones get the thumbs up
That's true Maxx everybody rides differently and so the tyres react the same a few years back a lot of the club were swearing by Azaros.I had a pair and i hated them the front never felt right to me and when i swapped to dunlops 207's then 208's and they suit my riding style.

Re: Tyres - which ones get the thumbs up
Got my tyre plugged today, and Tim at MTS drilled through the tyre.
He was shocked to find how strong the Maxxis tyre was and had to get 3 other makes of tyres and compare the insides of them. The compound is even stronger than Dunlop tyres.
He is now going to be stocking Maxxis tyres and will be using them on his own race bike as he is a privateer racer.
