Donington Bike Night

Post  OneeyedBandit on Thu Aug 27, 2009 9:20 pm

Well this months Bike Night at Donington Park (26th August), was some what disappointing for the
event staff, although the weather forecast for this week has been pretty accurate,
which is some what rare for the BBC, however the skies did clear in the end.

Some what different to July's Bike night whereby over 300 people turned up. But
this was my first Bike night, and the weather certainly didn't dampen my spirits.

I had to take my bike to Leicester for its 15k service, and in return I had a
courtesy bike of a Suzuki GS500E, hoping that my bike would be ready so I and my
over-half could attend the bike night on it. Sadly I received a call stating that I
needed a new Slave Cylinder, so my OH and I attended the event on the GS. I forgot
what fun the GS is, and is even more fun when your carrying a pillion.

This months guests were Tamworth Y****a, who are linked with the Y****a Airwaves
team, and they brought along one of the teams bikes and a race replica, and also a
custom paint company attended who had an R6 on display with the theme of St George
and the Dragon, and the other was a GSX-R in the theme of the film 300. Each of
the bikes artwork were hand sprayed.

Also present on show was a privately owned Aprilia RSV4, which the owner later
removed.

Two senior observers from my Advanced motorcyclist group were present representing the IAM, however
there wasn't really much for them to do, however their presence was noted by the
cafe staff, as we all tucked into some highly recommended Sausage cobs and a slice
of Apple Pie and Custard.

This was the 3rd Bike Night that Donington Park has hosted, the event is in it's
infancy, and has a lot of potential, especially with there being free entry to the
museum. Which for the classic bike fans amongst us, has some rare bikes including
some Raleigh ones, including the first Raleigh Bike to win the First race ever held
at Donington which was Whit Monday 25th May 1931.

And of course the legendary 1979 Suzuki RGB500 of Barry Sheene in full Texaco/Heron
livery.

Thanks to the guys at Y****a Tamworth who stayed till the end, and also
the Donington Staff, who persevered with the weather and accomodated the few of us
that attended..

Apologies for the number of photos I have attached, as these have come straight out
of the camera and I have not edited them.

This is the number of bike that turned up to Augusts Bike night, another two were behind the other vehicles.

This Paso is 17 years old.
