fooooooooooooooooooooooooook me pal you should get 40mpg ish
i get between 140 - 170 to reserve depending on how i ride
on a long run steady away 80mph cruising i get 170 mile to reserve
if i go out on a bonkers run 2nd gear wheelie abuse etc i still get 120/130
im down a tooth on standard front sprocket k+n and open pipe

so i think you wanna be stripping your carbs and having a good clean and check over and then set them up proper
check all vacuum hoses etc for splits n perishing and make sure all is in correct places etc

When did you last check/replace the air filter? If its still on the original then I'd put money on that being the problem. A K& N is a better replacement than a genuine Suzuki item. That'd be my starting point as the bikes running ok otherwise.

It sounds like it's over fuelling matey, I'd say strip the carbs down and give them a good clean down. Retuen everything back to factory settings mixture screws etc and while youre there pop in a new air filter. Then run for at leat 100 miles and if no better a visit to a dyno shop to let them look at the mixture

Fuel worries

Post  sherman on Sat Aug 29, 2009 8:54 pm

Hi mate,

How many litres is it taking you to fill it up?

The tank should take in the region of 19 litres if it's empty, about 20 quid at today's prices.

Silly question, but you have the fuel tap set to on or reserve?

I'd fit the filter and try it before you strip the carbs mate.Worth setting valve clearences and balancing carbs too.

agree with that once i did my valve clearances and set up the carbs new Iridium Plugs and oil and filter change manging to get 180 mile to a tank. Then reserve i dont drive it that hard only had license 2 yrs so still learning 70 -80 thats about it . Its worth doing as i get better consumption than my mate who has a 2yr old 650

Glad its sorted and for once relatively cheaply.I once went to look at a mates car that wouldn't start. I took the air filter out and presto, away she went. People often overlook this relatively cheap item and it can cause a lot of trouble. Get a genuine K&N cleaning kit and don't overoil the filter when you clean it.If you do ithe bike will not rev.Been there done that, doh!

bike is running lovely since putting new filter in doesnt choke its self when in low gear

at roundabouts or in the town anymore as for fuel consumption managed an extra 10 mile

2 a tank (90mile 2 a tank) looks like al need 2 get carbs checkd over and set up

If she's been running so rich for a while she'll be pretty coked up.I'd take her for a good long ride.Get her hot and use the revs to clear her out a bit.
