Noisy Front Sprocket
Hi all, New to the forum and have a little problem.
I own a 2005 Bandit 650. Owned from new and last week changed the chain and sprockets to x ring gold.
Bought the chain and sprockets as a kit from ebay £85 all in. Chain supplied was a 116 link chain, Spec's for the 650 are 112 so after seeking advice was told it was ok to take out a few links.
All went well, fitted correctly and well lubed.
I now have a very loud whine from the front sprocket. Nothing is rubbing the chain, its not too tight and the are no tight links.
Would changing the front sprocket to a oem stop this horrible noise. The new sprocket doesnt have the sound dampening rubber on the sides as the one i took off did.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated

Re: Noisy Front Sprocket
You've just answered your own question.
Put the sound dampening rubbers back on the new one.

Re: Noisy Front Sprocket
Thanks oneeyed.
I looked at the old sprocket and the rubbers appeared to be glued on. So i assume i'll have to buy a new one with rubbers.
Any ideas where i can get one ? or would this be Suzuki only ?
Cheers

Re: Noisy Front Sprocket
never had probs with sprockets without the rubber on them i`d have a good check about before i bought another sprocket maybe something trivial that youve done (wrong) we all make little mistakes from time to time

Re: Noisy Front Sprocket
I agree with paul that rubber doesn't do anything. I'd check the profile of the sprocket against the stock one and see if there is any differences.

Re: Noisy Front Sprocket
Ok, a quick up date.
Spent a few hours in the garage tonight and stripped down the front sprocket. I inspected all very closley and found no problem.
I even tried the old sprocket back on, Started the bike, on full stand, dropped it into gear and guess what? the very same noise. So its not the sprocket.
I tried various things, Put washer on back of sprocket even turned it round. I've loosened the chain even more and sprayed loads more lub on it. Thats when i notice the lub i was using, PJ1 Blue Label Chain Lube , was recomended for use on O ring chain's, This ones an X ring. Not sure it'll make much differance, but i'm off to the shop in the morning.
With all this messing around the chain seems a little quieter, Maybe all the lub i sprayed on, Maybe turning the sprocket around or loosening the chain more..... Who knows
The front sprockets profile seems the same both sides and the same thickness as the old one.
I've read on other sites that the chain quietens down after a few hundred miles.... others dissagree.
I really cant find anything that would be dangerous so i'm going back to using my baby again, Whinning chain or not ....
Thanks everyone for your replies
If anything changes i'll let ya know..
